The Retail Logistics & Innovation Lab
The mission of the Lab is to implement cutting-edge research in the field of logistics management and innovation developments in the retail industry. This is enabled by a close collaboration of the Technical University of Darmstadt with REWE Logistik as the logistics arm of the REWE Group Germany. Further institutions closely collaborating are Politecnico di Milano (School of Management), University of Bremen (Chair for Retail and Logistic Management) and the University of Göttingen (Chair for Marketing and Innovation Systems). Further partners are involved on an evolving basis and also further industry partners are invited to joint Lab activities.
Started in 2022, successful impacts can be stated such as for example publications like JBL 2025, IJPDLM 2025, IJPE 2025, POM 2024, CAIE 2024, IJPR 2024 or EJOR 2024, the 2023 BVL Award for the best ISSL presentation and a 2023 best student paper award finalist nomination at the Annual Meeting 2023 of the Academy of Management Boston.
The Lab team invites all researchers and retail experts to participate in the innovation and development topics addressed by the lab work. Two workshops have been conducted in November 2022 (Göttingen) and July 2023 (Darmstadt) with national and international participants from academia and business practice, a further Retail Logistics Workshop is planned for 18 September 2025 in Milan (LM 25, Politecnico di Milano, School of Management).
