International cooperation on "Human Factors in Industry 4.0“

Ideas and concepts for the future of work in production and logistics

Under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Christoph Glock, Dr. Eric Grosse, and Prof. Dr. Patrick Neumann (Ryerson University, Toronto, Canada), an international cooperation project on the topic of Human Factors in Industry 4.0 has been launched.

For the kick-off event on February 27 and 28, 2019, we welcomed a total of 17 scientists and company representatives to a workshop at the Institute of Production and Supply Chain Management. The participants from Germany, Canada, Italy, France, Norway, Sweden and Lithuania discussed the effects that increasing automation and digitalization in production and logistics will have on the employees and customers of the companies concerned. The objective of the workshop was to provide impulses for a stronger consideration of human needs in the design of modern workplaces and processes in production and logistics in order to achieve not only an improvement in efficiency but also an increase in workplace quality. The results of the workshop will be used for the initialization and continuation of joint interdisciplinary research and teaching projects.

From August 25-28, 2019, the successful workshop continued at the international conference “The 50th anniversary of the Nordic Ergonomics Society (NES)” in Elsinore, Denmark, with a high number of participants.

Further sessions and workshops on the future of work in production and logistics, taking into account the digital transformation, are planned under the leadership of the three scientists in the coming years, including at the 21st Triennial Congress of the International Ergonomics Association 2021 in Vancouver, Canada.
